What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are made of a range of different nutrients and acids. The most common are glycolic peels, but there are also trichloroacetic, lactic, jessners and salicylic peels. Some have blends of different acids. These components are safe and act as exfoliating agents, ridding your skin of dead cells and debris. At Perceptions, we individualize and formulate chemical peels to your specific needs and range in intensity from mild to deep, tackling skin issues both small and large.

What Does a Chemical Peel Do?

Your chemical peel can be adjusted based on your specific needs. Generally, these treatments are a great choice for those struggling with the following:

  • Acne and Acne Scarring

  • Age Spots

  • Aging Skin

  • Large Pores

  • Dull Skin

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Wrinkles and Fine Lines

  • Sun Damage

  • Uneven Skin Tone

  • Improves texture

  • Diminishes line and wrinkles

Are Chemical Peels Safe?

Chemical peels are a safe method for exfoliating the skin and rejuvenating your look. Most of the chemical peels available at our clinic generally take 15-30 minutes to apply. During a peel session, you may feel a slight burning and stinging sensation as the chemical peel does its job. This feeling usually lasts about 5-10 minutes and tends to be more severe depending on the intensity of your chosen peel. In some cases, you may leave with some mild irritation after a peel, but this side effect will subside after a short while. Afterward, your skin may slightly flake or peel for several days, depending on the peel chosen for you.

What Results Can I Expect?

Mild peels offer a nice radiance and glow with no downtime. The best part of choosing a mild peel is that it can be repeated every four weeks until the best results are reached. Medium and deep chemical peels can cause some irritation in the form of slight swelling, redness, and sensitivity. Afterward, your skin may peel for several days. This exfoliation process is completely normal, but if you have any concerns, you are always welcome to reach out to us! Depending upon the depth and level of your peel, as your skin goes through its renewal process, you’ll need to avoid direct sunlight for several months.

What to Expect During Treatment

During the appointment, our provider will gently cleanse the skin and apply the solution. The process typically lasts about 15 minutes. Depending on your skin concerns, we may recommend a series of treatments applied once every four weeks. Our team of skin care specialists will create a customized treatment plan to help you achieve optimal results.

What to Expect After Treatment

After the treatment session, clients are able to resume normal day-to-day activities. Still, we recommend limiting sun exposure and avoiding heavy sweating. You may notice the skin starts to “peel off” around day three, and the peeling process generally is complete within a week.
